Alstom’s Coradia I-Lint hydrogen train, which has been in successful commercial operation in Europe for several years, was successfully trialed in Charlevoix Quebec during the summer of 2023. However, this trial is now over and will not be a permanent commercial service.
California has ordered hydrogen-powered trains from Stadtler, but permitting and construction timeframes in California are long.
These two and other initiatives should demonstrate to our Government that hydrogen trains represent a real and viable transportation solution.
We believe that Alberta has a very realistic probability of being the first and certainly the most extensive hydrogen-powered service in North America fuelled by Alberta’s leadership in hydrogen and ability to get infrastructure built quickly and efficiently.
